Second -Antique Hand carved Italian Shell Cameo Brooch & Pendant Marked 800 Silver F269

Why is this in the seconds category when it is such a nice cameo? I have had this a long time and could not figure out why it had not sold. Turns out the pin is on upside down. It does still work, You can still wear it. And how do I know its on wrong? Well, the pin enters from the top of the clasp, not the bottom, the pin is also set a touch lower than midpoint on the back, usually the opposite is true. It has a ring soldered on it. These were originally used to attach a small chain that went to a "safety" pin. That little ring should be up top .....and also the 800 metal tag is upside down. Someone, either the person who put the pin on, or the person that set the cameo made a mistake.

  Now for the pertinents.  Size is 1.25 x 1 Inch. This cameo has what is called a tube hinge pin on it. That and this scroll work would indicate it is from around 1900. It does have a handmade locking clasp. There is a mark on it indicating it is 800 silver. This was common silver content used in italy. .800 as opposed to the standard .925 we use today for sterling. You can see there is some gold highlights on the setting. I think originally the silver on the filigrees had a gold plate. Two tone, some of that has dissipated so it is just sliver The shell is in good condition I don't see any cracks. Good cameo to add to your collection  Comes gift boxed.
